Together, they ascended Mount Skullfyre. Adina led them through a gap in the lines of the approaching brass army. Beyond it, the entire eastern half of the mountain range was awash in ash, so thick as to slow walking and blot out the sun. Along the way, among this desolation, they found a field of corpses. Some were human and some were brass men. Clearly there had been a skirmish. The humans all wore the uniform of the Cult of Igon. One of them was still barely alive, but his eyes had been burned out. Along the way, they ran into a weary dwarf soldier named Drauk-Mawk. From him, they learned that the forces of Skullfyre had been at war with the dwarves of the Black Mountains for several months. Drauk-Mawk was the only survivor of his squad, which had engaged the main brass man force nearby. Since he had nowhere else to be in a hurry, he joined the party. Shortly thereafter, they realized they were being followed. The person following them was a woman with ashen skin and red eyes. She looked much like Princess Kefe but was much shorter. She introduced herself as Princess Adina (also known

Teen Adventurers

About a year ago, in  the Mighty Gluestick's  Discord server, the subject of playing underaged characters in D&D came up. In my experience, it is not an especially unusual thing, so I was surprised when a large majority of posters there came out emphatically against it. Mostly, they were uncomfortable with the idea of portraying violence against children in their games. One poster in particular said he did not want to see a child get torn apart by undead. As opposed to seeing an adult get torn apart by undead, which I guess everyone is cool with. Anyway, I posted a long (by Discord standards) spiel about how I was not only okay with underaged PC's but actively liked the idea. It occurs to me that this is a post that could potentially actually change how someone out there plays D&D , so I decided to repost it here where it is findable, rather than leave it to languish in the ungooglable archives of a Discord server: Part of the point of D&D, to me, is emulating fanta

'Neath a Crimson Throne, Session XIV

June 21st, 2022/Worms 10th, 749 - Worms 13th, 748 Adventurers present: • Azaria, level 2 magic-user, played by B • Beowulf, level 4 fighter, played by J • Lady Joan, level 4 cleric, played by A • Lord Pendor, level 4 fighter, played by R Veriax the Elf went missing during the fight. The remaining adventurers turned down the brass mens' offer of parlay and slaught them all. They continued up the mountains, whose forested slopes had been reduced to great piles of ash and scree. Coming over a ridge, they looked down upon a camp-site. There was a great tent and a wooden pen in which were tethered a half-dozen banshee-birds. Two brass men guarded the tent. The adventurers attacked! One brass man went down, but the other freed several banshee-birds before taking shelter in the huge tent. The party killed most of the banshee-birds, but Azaria used her little medical knowledge to stabilize one and keep it from bleeding to death. Meanwhile Beowulf charged into the tent. Inside,

He also appointed the newly-minted Lord Pendor as governor of Mossbridge Fief. A year passed. Count Fenheah used the last of his wealth to rebuild Castle Fenn while Lord Pendor carried out the administrative tasks necessary to help Mossbridge recover from the orcish incursion. Lady Joan spent a great deal of that time among the common people working as a healer. Azaria lent her floating disc spell to aid in construction efforts, making a decent amount of money. She spent her earnings on a library of arcane texts and a building in which to house them. Beowulf manifested new powers gained by consuming the flesh of Big Mouth. He gained the a

Curse of Strahd, Session I

My friend Wulf is running the 5th Edition D&D adventure Curse of Strahd over Discord. Note that this first session is quite short and uneventful; it is really more of a session 0, as most of it was spent on character creation. Keep in mind also that, according to him, Wulf has made significant changes to the contents of the adventure. May 15th, 2022; Tarsakh 6 1491DR Heroes Present: •Boldrick Tanners, level 2 human fighter, played by Tryman •Corwin Orfen, level 2 human wizard, played by me •Novem, level 2 elf fighter, played by Dimitar Werewolves were harassing travelers outside the town of Daggerford. This was a lamentable situation, as the Zhentarim had invested heavily in the region and the werewolf attacks were cutting into Zhentish profits. So, Darkhold dispatched two trusted agents - the dark knight Boldrick "Main Man" Tanners and the young necromancer Corwin Orfen - to drive off the lycanthropes. They arrived in Darkhold late in the afternoon and immediately rendez
