'Neath a Crimson Throne, Session II

 September 21st, 2021/Raccoons 23rd-27th, 749

Heroes present:
•Anathar the Craven, level 1 magic-user, played by T

•Joan, level 1 cleric, played by A

•Pendor, level 1 fighter, played by R

Their entourage:

•Beornraed ap Oroko, level 1 fighter

•Sheornraed ap Oroko, level 1 fighter

•Tryglia ap Oroko, level 2 fighter

•A donkey

•Three horses

The safest road to Oroko would take the heroes south, through the village of Nordale, then through the Black Mountains by way of Shortfellow's Pass, then north again. First, though, they decided to take a detour to the nearby town of Guthla, seat of County Guthla. When they arrived, they sold some of the extra weapons they had looted from the bodies of Tryglia's warriors. They also visited the local temple of Wotan, where they met a young fighter named Pendor. He had come to town from his father's farmstead, seeking adventure and fortune. The party was happy to let him join their ranks.

Father Modbrand, a priest of the temple, told Anathar about a local mage named Eveningstar. So, Anathar went to visit Eveningstar's cottage in the nearby wilderness in hopes of learning some new magic. Eveningstar obliged, and for a fee taught him a spell of charm person. (Referee's note: this should have taken a couple of days, but I missed that when I skimmed the rules for copying spells. We'll just say that Eveningstar is a really good teacher, and he was on top of his game that day.)

The party stayed at a local inn and set out early the next morning. Their path now took them back to Dunnage, then south to Nordale. Between Dunnage and Nordale, they came across an overturned wagon. There were four wolves feasting on the corpse of a man and an ox. The heroes drove off these wolves, but Pendor sustained some injuries. Inside the wagon, the heroes found the remains of what must have once been some beautiful pottery, apparently smashed when the wagon turned over.

They righted the wagon, fixed one of their horses to it, loaded the dead man into the back, and continued traveling toward Nordale.

Because Pendor was hurt, their first stop in Nordale was the local temple. There, they found a rotund priest tending to beehives. He introduced himself as Friar Brian, a priest of Buzdor (goddess of bees and other helpful insects). He cheerfully performed a spell which cured Pendor's wounds. Then, the heroes showed him the dead man they had found on the road. “Oh no, poor Tormnyr!” he cried.

“Yeah, torn near in half, more like it,” replied Anathar.

“That's what we called him,” said Brian, “'Tormnyr the Half, ever since his heart was broken.”

Apparently Tormnyr the Half was a potter of great skill, and he would be missed here in his home village of Nordale.

Anathar bought several pots of honey from Friar Brian.

The sun grew low in the sky. There was no inn in Nordale, but the mayor was willing to let them stay the night in the village longhouse, where they were treated to locally-brewed mead. The next morning, they left, going east through Shortfellow's Pass.

Their journey across the mountain range took two days, and was uneventful. Around noon on the second day, they arrived at the town of Oroko, seat of County Oroko.
