'Neath a Crimson Throne, Session VIII

Wayfarer's Sanctum was a minstry just off a road in eastern Omnikar. It was built by a monastic order dedicated to Dinrad, the god of hospitality. In accordance to the will of Dinrad, Wayfarer's Sanctum had doubled as a roadside inn for many years.

It was midmorning. Beowulf, Joan, Pendor, and two strangers named Daveth and Kilwoo were all guests at Wayfarer's Sanctum. Joan was in the monastery's infirmary, recovering from a mild illness she contracted from rat bites the night before. They were enjoying a cheesy chipotle breakfast prepared by the monks and their leader, Mother Dayna. The guests soon became ill.

Daveth left to relieve himself outside behind the stables. A monk showed Beowulf, Pendor, and Kilwoo to their individual guest rooms. Once everyone was secure in their rooms, one monk each came into the rooms to attack the queezy adventurers. Another went outside and attacked Daveth while his pants were down.

Daveth died. But Beowulf, Pendor, and Kilwoo managed to defeat their assailants. They confronted Mother Dayna, demanding an explanation. She begged for mercy. She claimed to be the only true Dinradian left in the monastery; the rest of the “monks” were actually brigands who had killed the real monks, put on their robes, and were robbing every wayfarer who stopped by.

The adventurers decided to spare her, and at Pendor's insistence, she led them to the basement where the brigands had been storing their ill-gotten loot. The adventurers took a goodly portion of the treasure for themselves, and also rescued a prisoner: the young nobleman Deckard Williams of Norenguard.
