Lizard-Men (Shaxreel in their own tongue) are native to the Blackmire region of Omnikar, a vast everglades. They are as intelligent as humans, but choose to live a primitive lifestyle. Lizard-Men worship the Old Gods of the Wilderness, survive by hunting game, and refuse to practice metallurgy.

They are highly territorial. Shaxreel warriors patrol the Blackmire looking out for intruders. These warriors will conspicuously follow any riverboats which pass through their territory, but usually only attack if a stranger sets foot on land.

In combat, Lizard-Men carry spears and shields. Their shields are made from the shells of giant Blackmire turtles, but are no less effective than those forged by humans. For ranged combat, they rely on shortbows, the tips of which are often coated in poisonous frog mucous (save vs. poison or die in 1d4 rounds). These poisoned arrows are used only for war, never for hunting, since they render the meat of any creature killed by them unfit for eating.

The Lizard-Men have no central government. Each clan lives in its own village of mud huts and has a spiritual leader called a shivaim (“shaman”). Shivaims cast Magic-User spells, but do so using Cleric spellcasting rules, as though they were 3rd-level Clerics.

Each clan also has a chief, who is elected by the warriors. The chief is usually the strongest, smartest, and most charismatic member of the clan.

There are no female Lizard-Men. Each Shaxreel village hosts a takkingteld (“spawning field”), a flat area of bare mud covering one or two acres. When the urge strikes him, (usually once or twice a year), a Lizard-Man will go out into the takkingteld and inseminate the ground there. A month later, a rubbery, red flower will bloom on the spot. Over the course of the next week after that, the flower will produce a Shaxreel egg, which hatches a few days later.
